FRUGALITY FACTOR: Is calculated by a ratio of cost to effect. This algorithm is even less known than Google's PageRank algorithm, mainly because we don't really have a formula.

Creating Keepsakes magazine is an industry standard and a favorite of many scrapbookers.  Lisa Bearnson is the founding editor and has a celebrity status among devotees to the scapbooking craft.

Creating Keepsakes features inspiring layouts, creative ideas, and fun techniques.  The regular features are interesting and fonts of ideas and information (not just filler like in some magazines).  The special articles each month are fun and push you creatively, or help you to get out of a rut.

One of my favorite regular features is 3 Products 5 Scrapbookers.  This section (as it's name implies) highlights three products and shows how five scrapbookers used them to create distinctly varied layouts.  I just love to see the creative ways the same products can be used to design such different layouts.  It knocks home the point that although many scrapbookers use the same products the resulting layouts are as different as the people using them.  I also like how the section is wrapped up with Take a Second Look! which explains how the products were applied to achieve the looks.  Sometimes, I am caught up in the overall effect and eye-catching design of a layout that I miss the details that are subtly working on the page.  The wrap-up makes sure people like me don't miss the details.

The column called Becky's Sketch is a similar concept to 3 Products 5 Scrapbookers.  It takes a sketch by Becky Higgins and shows interpretations of the basic sketch by five scrapbookers plus Becky.  Additional layouts based on the same sketch are featured on the Creating Keepsakes web site.  Again, I like seeing how different layouts can be derived from the same basic idea.

I have to admit that I'm a magazine junkee!  I love reading magazines and have an embarrassing number of subscriptions.   I do have a subscription to Creating Keepsakes.  I enjoy checking out the layouts, inspiring ideas, and new products featured in the magazine itself (and the ads!)  If you enjoy the magazine and pick it up on a regular or semi-regular basis, a subscription is well worth it.  The current cover price is $5.99 --a subscription is currently is $19.97 for one year (13 issues).  But check the Creating Keepsakes website, occasionally you can get better deals online than in issue subscription postcard touts.  Also forget sending that postcard in, you can sign up right online and get your info in faster!  You can even select the bill me option, so you don't have to pay that moment.
