FRUGALITY FACTOR: Is calculated by a ratio of cost to effect. This algorithm is even less known than Google's PageRank algorithm, mainly because we don't really have a formula.

Tested Tips are based on two other unscientific criteria

Using Stickers To Mask Designs On A Painted Background PDF Print E-mail
Written by Diane Pottle

I applied the clear hole reinforcer stickers (the kind for binder filler paper). Then painted over the background with a few colors of Folk Art acrylic paint . When the paint was dry, I peeled the stickers off. Then I journaled on the page.

Floating Flowers And Other Things That Don't Make Sense But Work PDF Print E-mail
Written by Diane Pottle

I love the colors on this page! I used Folk Art paints for the background in shades of grey, green, and aqua. I drew a dragonfly. It came out alright. I was pleased. I used some clear glitter “paint” to add selective spots of sparkle on the page. I used markers and a Bic Wite-Out correction pen to finish off the page with a border, flight path, and floating flowers. The floating flowers really added a lot to the page - good thing it doesn’t really have to make sense.

Bubble Wrap Printing PDF Print E-mail
Written by Diane Pottle

I had two things I wanted to play with on this page: printing with bubble wrap and to make some birds on newsprint. I painted the background. I used a foam brush to apply a thick layer of black acrylic paint onto a small section of bubble wrap. If you use a thin layer of paint or a large section of bubble wrap, the paint can dry before you stamp it onto the page, so the effect is not that dramatic. I reapplied paint most of the time before stamping another part of the background. I used a Bic Wite-Out correction pen to add some white dots. I hand cut some birds from newsprint. I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in turquoise to spray the birds. I have a box I use for spraying pieces in, so the overspray is contained. I zapped the birds with a heat gun to dry them and then added details with a fine point pen. I attached the birds with double sided tape. I then added the border and sentiment.

Fabric Leaf Page PDF Print E-mail
Written by Diane Pottle

I knew I wanted to use some fabric leaves on this page. I started by painting the background of the page with Folk Art Metallic Cooper Paint. I LOVE this paint color! I tried to attach the leaves with Mod Podge , but they were too bumpy. So I then attached them with Mini Glue Dots. I finished up by outlining the leaves, writing the sentiment, and adding dots on the background.

Mess It Up With Ink PDF Print E-mail

My starting point for this page was playing with watercolor pencils. After coloring the page, I used water to “paint” the page. I hadn’t played with these type of pencils in years. The set of watercolor pencils I had was an inexpensive set from Colorific that I acquired second hand. I was a little disappointed that the pencil lines didn’t blend out more. I then applied paint to an old film canister and stamped with it. When it was dry, I journaled around the circles. I thought the page needed something more. I let it sit a few days, then I took acrylic ink and blew it around the page with a drinking straw. I love the look of blown paint or ink, but the process of blowing the paint makes me dizzy.
